Why I am against this whole thing

This all started with a question: Was there a socially acceptable way to draw attention to yourself and brag about your self before the advent of blogging and facebook? In my research thus far the answer is no. This brings me to the next question: Why is it now socially acceptable? And perhaps more importantly should it be socially acceptable? The first question still plagues my mind. If I had to answer the question I would say that one person broke the rules and everyone else followed with the assumption that it is now ok. The second question I feel strongly about. My simple answer: NO! In an era of entitlement the last thing we need is people believing that they are entitled to others attention. In a more primitive society attention is gained purely on ones actions and contributions to that society, both tangible and intangible. We now live in a day and age in which people understand the power and influence of attention. We have learned how to manipulate it. This process so often robs those that merit the attention and gives it to a dishonest or artificial source. I do not hold my self up as a beacon of honesty and unadulterated truth only a seeker or the two. The main purpose of this then is to direct attention away from those artificial things that do not merit it. If this is the only post that is read and it is internalized then my purpose is justified.

From here on out I intent to tear down the artificial and promote that which should be promoted. I recognize that I am subject to my own biases and I do not obligate any one person to read any part of my blog. Also I would like to mention that apart from drawing attention away from and to certain things I started this blog because friends of mind asked me to.
